Chiropody / Podiatry
Chiropody, or Podiatry as it is often called, is the specialist care of the lower limb. Chiropody is concerned with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of abnormalities of the lower limb and foot. They treat people of all ages and are able to manage patients with 'high risk' diseases such as diabetes, arthritis and vascular disease. All state registered chiropodists must have undertaken a 3 year degree course at a recognised school, which cover all aspects of the clinical practice of chiropody.
What does Chiropody treat?
Chiropody treats a range of foot and lower limb problems, which range from general foot care including ingrown toenails, verrucas, corns and callous to more specialised areas such as nail surgery, sports injury, biomechanics, gait assessment and orthotics.
Format/approach.
A general foot care consultation, which includes a full history, small joint assessment and treatment, takes approximately 30 minutes and from this a specific management plan will be devised dependent on individual requirements.
