Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is the oldest known form of medicine. Plants have been used for health since humans walked the earth, but it is only now that science is catching up with what humans have always known, that plants hold amazing healing powers. Because Medical Herbalists use the whole plant, the balance of naturally occurring chemicals is retained resulting in fewer side effects than when plant chemicals are isolated and used alone.

Who is Herbal Medicine for?

Herbal Medicine can address a wide scope of ailments and conditions. Skin conditions, digestive complaints, heart and circulation problems, gynaecological complaints and infection or allergy all respond well to Herbal medicine, as do many other illnesses. If you’re not sure if your symptoms can be helped by this therapy just ask our Medical Herbalist.

Format / Approach.

Medical Herbalists are holistic practitioners, that is to say they treat the whole person, as apposed to just the presenting symptom. They are trained in the same diagnostic skills as GPs.

The first consultation will take approx 1 hour when a detailed medical history will be taken along with information about diet and lifestyle. This information is used to build up a picture of the patient’s physical, mental and emotional health. The 2nd appointment will usually be  2 weeks after the 1st, and subsequent appointments will be monthly.

Medicine.

All prescriptions are individually tailored to meet each patient’s unique needs; they can be in the form of tincture, tea, tablet, cream or lotion. It may also include advice on diet and lifestyle if appropriate.
