Acupuncture is part of the holistic system of Chinese Medicine that originated in China over 5000 years ago. It is based on the belief that health is determined by a balanced flow of qi, (said ‘chi’) the vital life energy present in all living organisms.
According to this theory, qi circulates along 14 major energy pathways called meridians, each linked to an internal organ and system of the body. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles at specific acupuncture points along these meridians in order to correct and rebalance the flow of qi thus re establishing health, well-being & vitality to the person.
It is a painless & relaxing treatment that has been widely accepted by Western Medicine. Acupressure is an alternative technique available if you have a fear of needles.
What Does Acupuncture Treat?
In Chinese Medicine, any illness or symptom is associated with an imbalance or disharmony of qi, when the flow is blocked or depleted. Injury also causes the qi to be blocked and gives rise to pain.
